During a regular cleaning, the goal is to disinfect and refresh the main bathroom surfaces including the toilet, sink and counter, shower or tub, mirrors, and floors. Follow these steps in order and use fresh rags frequently so everything is properly cleaned and disinfected.

Step 1: Prepare the Area

Turn on the fan for airflow. Remove items from the sink counter and tub ledges and place them neatly to one side so you can clean underneath.

Dust any surfaces such as the top of the toilet tank, vanity edges, or shelves. Slightly organize the counters if they are messy, but be careful not to spend too much time trying to make them perfect.

Remember to put everything back exactly where you found it when you finish. Shake out bathmats and move them out of the way. Always be careful not to spray cleaning products near toothbrushes, cups, or other personal items.

Step 2: Mirrors

Spray Windex directly onto the mirror and wipe using a clean microfiber cloth from top to bottom in straight lines. After wiping, shine the mirror with a clean dry rag that has no product on it to remove any streaks or haze.

Check the mirror from different angles to make sure it’s spotless before moving on.

Step 3: Sink and Counter

Spray all-purpose cleaner on the counter, backsplash, and faucet area. Use Bar Keepers Friend in the sink basin to remove toothpaste, residue, or buildup. Scrub gently with a damp cloth or sponge, rinse thoroughly, and dry with a clean cloth.

Wipe the faucet and handles until completely dry and shiny. Wipe the counter again to ensure there’s no product overspray or streaks. Return all items to the counter neatly and in their original positions.

Step 4: Toilet

Put on gloves and use a toilet-only rag that is never reused for other areas. Spray all-purpose cleaner on the entire toilet including the tank, handle, lid, seat, sides, and base.

Start wiping from the top and work your way down. Clean the handle first, then the tank, then the lid and seat, making sure to clean both the top and underside of the seat and lid. Wipe behind the hinges where grime builds up, around the bolt caps on each side of the base, and along the caulk line where the toilet meets the floor.

Spray cleaner inside the bowl and scrub under the rim, down the sides, and into the trap until it looks and smells clean. Flush to rinse.

Wipe any drips or cleaner from the exterior and dry chrome or porcelain so it shines. The entire toilet should be completely clean, including the hinges, bolt caps, and under the rim.

Step 5: Shower or Tub

Remove all items from the ledges or corners and pre-rinse the walls and floor with warm water. Spray all-purpose cleaner on the walls, fixtures, and corners, then apply Bar Keepers Friend to the tub or shower floor and to any glass or tile areas.

Always use Bar Keepers Friend on tubs and showers even if they don’t look dirty since soap film can be invisible but customers feel it when they bathe.

Scrub from top to bottom, focusing on corners, handles, and around the drain. If the client does not have an extendable shower head, use the milk jug in your tool bin to rinse everything thoroughly with warm water so no product is left behind.

Wipe the surfaces dry with a clean rag and polish the taps until they shine. Replace all items neatly, making sure the bottoms are clean before putting them back.

Step 6: Floors

Vacuum the floor thoroughly with the Noma canister vacuum, getting behind the toilet and along the edges.

Fill the Frank’s spin mop bucket with warm water and a small capful of Pine-Sol. Wring out the mop so it’s only damp, not wet. Mop from the furthest corner toward the exit, ensuring even coverage and no puddles.

Let the floor air dry before placing mats back down.

Step 7: Final Check

Do a slow visual check of the entire bathroom. Look for missed spots, drips, or streaks. Straighten mats and décor.

Make sure the toilet paper is folded neatly or replaced if needed. The bathroom should look and smell fresh when you leave.

Remember

Use new rags frequently so surfaces are actually being cleaned and not spread with a dirty cloth.

Keep your toilet rag separate and never reuse it for any other area.

Bar Keepers Friend is for sinks and tubs when there’s buildup, otherwise all-purpose cleaner is enough.

Always double-check your work before leaving to make sure the bathroom looks bright, disinfected, and ready to use.
